Alright! Here it is. My list of directors that have changed the world of cinema forever, and inspired the greatest directors today.This list of extraordinary people was very difficult to narrow down, but it's here. Just so everybody knows the rules (my rules at least) for the list.
-Their first film has to have come out before 1970
-They must have a steady career of many great films under their belt.
-They must have explored a wide array of themes and genres in their films.
-I judge not on my favorites, but who I believe has affected cinema the greatest (basically who has inspired and influenced the great directors after them), and who has the best cinematic form.

Hey, you've got 13 in there. Which one is Judas and gets kicked out? Murnau died early, but never apostatized. Personally, I like Hawkes the least of those boys, but it's a tough call.
ReplyDeleteIt's close, personally I would vote Welles out first...but it's hard to not put the man who made Citizen Kane on this list when it has influenced so many. Influentially...Dreyer is probably the most unknown, and thus his influence hasn't had the reaches of Bergman or Hitchcock...but I love Dreyer too much.
ReplyDeleteI guess logistically Hawkes would have to go...but how can I kick out the man who made Rio Bravo? Regardless...just pretend that Hawkes is an honorable mention.
